Create a Custom Twitter Background Tutorial – Part 1

Are you not sure how to create a custom Twitter background for free?

Are you unsure about the right Twitter background image size to use?

In this tutorial, part 1 of 2, we’ll show you the best way to create a Twitter background, how to choose the right Twitter background size and more, for free!

In the video we basically talk about what size you should set your Twitter background to be, how to create a beautiful Twitter background quickly and how to upload it to Twitter. We also go in depth with different varieties of background depending on whether you would like a patterned background, a simple background with just an image or two, or you want to create a Twitter background for your company featuring your logo.

Here are the dimensions for those of you looking for the correct Twitter background image size to use:

• Make it 2000 pixels x 1500 pixels. This way it will span across the vast majority of most people’s screens (resolution sizes are going up all the time).

• If you’re going to put in your company logo, make it 180 pixels wide and 30 pixels from the left edge and top edge and make sure that it is placed in the top right hand corner.

Part 2 of the video is right here.

Some further advice on creating a beautiful Twitter background for free:

A good example of what to use as a background would include:

Yeah, we know, this one’s ours but it’s a good background because:

• It suggests something about what we do, as we are a Twitter blog, there is the color significance.

• It’s very easy on the eye and very nice to look at.

• It doesn’t distract from the main content of the page, but still adds a nice edge.

A Bad Example of a Twitter background:

This background is heavily contrasted and has a lot going on. Why this is a bad background:

• It may be suggestive of what the user is or does, but it’s too much and over the top.

• Too much color. Try to keep it simple with your Twitter backgrounds folks, you’re more likely to get those all important followers.

• You can’t see it in this picture, but the image is way too small and the user has ’tiled’ the image so this repeats unevenly. Avoid doing it like the plague if you can.

There are no rules to having a custom Twitter background, don’t get us wrong, these are technically our opinions, but what we are suggesting to you is what people will more likely be attracted too and are therefore more likely to follow you.

Here’s some more tips:

• Don’t make it overly complicated because it could just end up looking like a mess. Plus Twitter’s system is pretty simplistic and it all looks very simple so keep in mind how your background may look with the simplicity of Twitter.

• Think about the people who will visit your page. If it looks like a mess people will immediately leave and will probably not follow you…all due to your Twitter background!

• Don’t use too many bright colors at once like neons, as they tend to make people…well feel a little queasy. Unless you’re an 80′s retro band.

• Don’t try to push anything within the background. Don’t advertise your services there or try to offer people deals as they will instantly turn around and leave because they’ll know it means that you’re only interested in selling something.

• Try to have a human face as your avatar and then have your company logo in the background. This shows there is some humanity behind what appears to be a company.

• Make your Tweets reflect your background. If you are a company, don’t just tweet about things you want to sell after putting some effort into your background as it sends a mixed message. Ultimately people want to be entertained on Twitter…so don’t think that making yourself look initially authentic will keep those followers!

• Have fun with it! This is the trouble with most things like this is that people do not have fun while they are doing it and see it as something that is too ‘business-like’. If you enjoy it, the perfect background will come and it’ll look good to you and your followers.

• Remember that your background is only the initial impression…but it’s a big impression. Your tweets need to be sharp but the majority of Twitter users will look at your profile only once, but if they are engaged they are more likely to find out more about you either by clicking your link in your bio and…if you’re selling something…maybe even buy it.

• It’s quite sad but appearances really are pretty much everything these days, especially when there is no direct face-to-face contact, so do your best with every aspect of your Twitter experience.

On that last point, I’d like to say that this is the main reason I created this tutorial…you will want people to see you as professional and that you know what you are doing…so the background is INCREDIBLY important.

Enjoy guys!
